The sun is rising earlier and earlier in the northern hemisphere, and I am very thankful for that, given spring is still almost a month away.
Good things are also happening in the studio these days. After seven years of working in the unheated garden shed, I've made the leap and begun converting the shed into a full time studio. Goodbye Lorie's Pottery Shed, hello Lorie Marsh Ceramics at Old Black Dog Pottery.
Last Friday the old roll up metal shed door was replaced with lovely full light French doors. This week the space was gutted and insulation is being installed, which is a crucial part of establishing a year-round full time studio space in northern Indiana, where it often remains below zero for weeks on end in the winter. Later today, or at the end of the week at the latest, the open roof ridge vent will be removed. And while I will still have some work to do, like installing waterproof flooring and new adjustable shelving, I will at least be able to do it from a much more comfortable space that will finally be air tight, and even more importantly, nature proof. Goodbye squirrel.....
