Wow, what a crazy world we are living in. Who would have thought this year would turn out this way. So many feelings have surfaced during this pandemic - disappointment, worry, grief, fear, anger, and occasionally relief and even a few moments of peaceful joy.
In the spirit of what is best for all of us, Michiana Pottery Tour will be virtual this year. Your health, our heath, and the health of every human being is of the utmost importance to us. We can't be working artists without you, and you can't buy functional art without us. And who knows, maybe we'll save the life of your neighbor, store clerk, or mailman while we're at it.
I'll be posting photos of what I'm making for Michiana Pottery Tour over the course of the next few weeks - yes, there will be tiny wheel thrown pumpkins. But for right now, let's talk about the main show!
So here's the low down. All Michiana Pottery Tour artists have a link at www.michianapotterytour.com as well as links to their social media pages, websites, and ways to reach out via email or telephone if you would like to schedule a one-on-one virtual studio visit during the online tour. Each artist will have new work available on September 26. You will contact and purchase from each individual artist via their online shop.
On September 26, pour yourself a nice big cup of coffee, settle in to your favorite corner of the couch, and start browsing through work by:

And while you're online, be sure to pick up Meredith McGriff's book The Michiana Potters - Art, Community and Collaboration in the Midwest by visiting CaughtUpInClay.com. During the tour shipping is free!
Here's a snippet from Meredith's website: A new pottery tradition has been developing along the border of northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Despite the fact that this area is not yet an established destination for pottery collectors, Michiana potters are committed to pursuing their craft in this region thanks to the presence of a community of like-minded artists. The Michiana Potters, an ethnographic exploration of the lives and art of these potters, examines the communal traditions and aesthetics that have developed in this region. In addition to demonstrating a methodology that can be applied to studies of other emergent regional traditions, McGriff concludes that these styles and methods form a communal bond that inextricably links the processes of creating and sharing pottery in Michiana.
The Sale Starts Sept. 26th, 10am EST
