Well, I've done it. When I began working with ceramics in 2013 I swore I never would, but I have. I've given this addiction a name, a logo, and an Etsy store. I've purchased business cards, and I've sold my first piece of work.
When this incredible journey began, I feared being chained to the demands of "the market". Truthfully, I still am. I fear selling my work will stifle it. Throughout history creativity and the marketplace have rarely made good bed fellows. Time after time the maker falls to the demand of the market and in effect sells his soul to the devil. Or in the pottery world, he spends his days making mugs when what he really wants to make are freeform non functional designs that are born in the fertile soil of his soul. However, the day has come where I need fuel to feed the need to create, and that fuel is the mighty dollar. It is time to make my art self-sustaining.
